Any Travel Agents here? Advice needed BA Pilot strike
I have flights booked to the UK, leaving in a couple of days, this morning I receive an email from British Airways that my return flight next month has been cancelled due to this pilot strike.

Travel agent, which is the online variety has said I can get a refund on my ticket and re book with another airline, problem is with only 3 days to go and all this fucking about by BA, there is limited availability and with suddenly a lot of people looking to change to another carrier prices have sky rocketed for the few seats available.

Question is, my outward flight is unaffected so what are the chances if the dispute with the pilots gets sorted in the next few weeks, will flights get re scheduled again? The other is if I start my journey with BA, even though they have already cancelled my return ticket, are they then obliged to get me a flight back on the next available flight out of London?

Oh, and the Pilots, who on average earn around 100K are a bunch of cunts

Looks like you're already aware of this:

"British Airways has admitted it made a mistake when it advised passengers flights were cancelled, and told them to book new ones.

Passengers have described "confusion" as cancelled flights were reinstated, but only after some of them rebooked.

Pilots are set to strike next month, but some people with flights on non-strike days were told to rebook, or get a refund.

BA apologised for any concern caused and said the email was an "error".

"We are getting in touch with all those customers this afternoon to clarify that their flight will go ahead as planned," a spokesman said.

"We are sorry for any confusion and inconvenience this has caused."

He encouraged anyone who had spent money on new flights to get in touch. "We will deal with each case on an individual basis," he added."

Eddie BBC'ed.

Check your booking on ba.com as they sent out a load of cancellation email for flights that aren't cancelled.

Eddie B from the BBC Website:

"Travel expert Simon Calder explained it had turned into five successive days of cancellations because BA would not send a flight to, for example, Hong Kong, if a pilot was going to go on strike the next day.

He also said BA has to find customers "an alternative flight on the same day if it possibly can, even if it means buying you a ticket on another airline".

If you are delayed overnight, he said BA has to pay for a hotel and meals.

He added: "The worst thing you can do is take a full refund because then you will be buying another ticket yourself and that could well cost more.""

I'm also flying in/out at the time of the strike, but not with BA.

That'll mean my flights will be rammed with fucking BA riff-raff.

This is intersting.

What can I claim if my flight has been affected by the strikes?

If your flight has been cancelled because airline staff are striking, the the Civil Aviation Authority said, then this would be considered within the airline's control, and therefore you have a legal right to either:

A full refund, and this includes flights in the same journey that might be from a different airline (for example, an onward or return flight)

A replacement flight to get to your destination

Or, if you are part way through your journey and don't want a replacement flight, you are entitled to a flight back to the airport you originally departed from

In some cases, passengers may be entitled to additional cash compensation for the inconvenience – but only if you receive notice that your flight is affected less than 14 days before departure.

"It might be worth checking flights with Skyscanner as you might find an option there to get you home"

Already did that, but with short notice and i expect many others having to re shedule plus all the shenanigans at HK airport opening and closing which is another major hub to Sydney, prices have skyrocketed as the airlines and agents take advantage i guess.

Been told conflicting storys about the booking being honoured if i make the outward journey, some say they have to honour the booking others say some 14 day rule applys and they dont, so im fucked if i know which is correct????

As you got the notification from BA by the sounds of things 14 days before your flight, I am afraid you might be screwed. The options are as your agent said is getting your money back and rebooking with another line. It might be worth checking flights with Skyscanner as you might find an option there to get you home.

I don't know that if the strike is called off the flight will be automatically reinstated. I don't think it is likely as they would have to sell a flight load of seats and the slot may be taken by other airlines. It is probably standard for all airlines, so if you don't want to ring BA try another airline.

Hope you manage to get things sorted.

Up there with the worst customer service out there.

Re: Any Travel Agents here? Advice needed BA Pilot strike
Personally I would leave it.

Just claim you've been hiking somewhere remote in the Scottish highlands and had no TV, radio or mobile phone coverage for a couple of weeks.

It's striking season at BA, anyway. If it's not the pilots, it's the cabin crew, and if it's not the cabin crew, it's the baggage handlers. As has been said, they are contracted to get you to your destination and obliged to put you up in a hotel if the delay in doing so is excessive.

And I agree with previous posters. Not only is BA shit, Terminal 5 at Heathrow is no more than a flashy, shop infested cattle market.

Hopefully it will be as i did book with the same Credit Card and thats were the insurance is, i get it as a perk.

But the dilema is how long i leave things, if the strike doesnt go ahead and the flight gets re scheduled all well and good, but if i dont re book the connecting flight and the strike goes ahead i dont know when im traveling back so cant re schedule the connecting flight, so trying to get a handle on how these things pan out, that is now the flight is cancelled is it 100% staying cancelled even if the strike doeasnt happen? Or do BA just reinstate all the previously cancelled flights if the strike is called off?

Anyone works for BA on WHO????

If it was all paid for by credit (not debit) card, the connecting flight may be covered by their (automatic) insurance bundled in with their services.

Not a great help if time is the driver, but you may be financially covered.

Row 41, almost center of the pitch, thats all i was told by my Brother in law who is a member and got me the ticket but should be decent and he said similar to the Southampton game i saw a couple of seasons ago.

Looking forward to it.

On a tangent, where are your seats for next Saturday?

Re: Any Travel Agents here? Advice needed BA Pilot strike
Everyone is differnt and it this was a straight return then i wouldnt be too bothered, but there is a connacting flight in the mix, on another booking and airline......that i will miss if the strike goes ahead and the return flight is cancelled, its non refundable, so will have all the hassle of trying to claim insurance minus the excess and re booking, thats more pissing me off than anything else.

Manuel 7:15 Sat Aug 24
Re: Any Travel Agents here? Advice needed BA Pilot strike
Can't blame yourself for that. Tbh, and I know we are all different, but I wouldn't be too fussed as the most important thing is getting there, these things usually sort themselves out. Once there and settled call the London BA office and they will have to tell you what the situation is, it's not like you have just bought a bag of chips off them.

Sydney_Iron 7:02 Sat Aug 24
Re: Any Travel Agents here? Advice needed BA Pilot strike
Hope your right Manuel, its pissing me right off though...

And yes, there were cheap, booked Premium econony, as it was only about $100 more than ecomony with a decent airline like Emirates, so thought i would give it a go, regretting it know but then again how the fuck do you predict something like this? Of all the days to strike they choose my return date, just bad luck i guess.

Manuel 6:47 Sat Aug 24
Re: Any Travel Agents here? Advice needed BA Pilot strike
This happened to me before with Lufansa. The way I understand is they are obligated to get you on a plane even if it is another airline. I would chill and not worry too much as it's the return flight, once in the UK call the BA London office and go from there.

Btw, BA are shit, I take it you booked with them 'coz they were cheap?
